Apples Can Damage Teeth

Eating apples risk four times more damaging to teeth than soft drinks. Really?

Citing Dailymail, wine and beer also increase the risk of tooth decay. But the pickled onions and oranges, if not too often do not consume them.

"This is not just about what we eat, but how we eat it," said Professor David Bartlett, Chief of prosthodontic King's College London Dental Institute, who led the study.

"The doctor is quite correct to say that eating apples is good, but if you eat it slowly, a high level of acidity which can damage the teeth. Drinks are most often associated with diet erosion, especially cola, showed no increased risk. These results emphasize that the dietary advice should be targeted at strong acidic than regular soft drinks are consumed, "he said.

In a recent study, the researchers looked for a relationship between tooth wear in multiple sites in the mouth and diet on more than 1,000 men and women aged 18 to 30 years.

Apples are seeking damages on the surface of the enamel of their teeth 2mm, and the dentin, the main supporting structure of the tooth under the enamel and researchers compare it with diet.

People who eat apples is 3.7 times more likely to experience damage to dentin. While consumers of carbonated beverages has no additional risk.

Apple juice increases the likelihood of damage to the enamel around the top of the tooth near the gum four times. While the beer, the acid, raising the possibility of damage to the dentine tripled. And, some of the apple contains four teaspoons of sugar that contributes to raised levels of acid in the mouth.

Dr Glenys Jones, nutritionists say, "Acid and obviously do not have sugar, but I do not want people to despair and to stop eating fruit and fruit juice."

One suggestion to eat apples must be balanced with milk or calcium-containing either a piece of cheese. Its function is to neutralize the acid. Drinking water immediately after eating apples will also help, in order to wash the harmful effects.

Dr. Jones said, "Drinking fruit juices and smoothies through a straw is a way to protect your teeth. Brushing your teeth before eating acidic foods can also help because it provides a barrier between food and teeth."
